KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 24 — The PKR central leadership stresses it holds to the consensus reached on January 7 last year that Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad will be the Prime Minister (PM), Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail the Deputy Prime Minister, and PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will become the next PM after a two-year period.

“We stand by the agreement that was reached and announced on Jan 7, 2018, that Dr Mahathir will be the prime minister, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail be the deputy prime minister and Anwar take over as the eighth prime minister after a period of two years.”

“Keadilan stresses that the party’s stand on the matter has not changed,” PKR said in a statement yesterday.

The PKR central leadership always reiterates that it fully supports Dr. Mahathir`s leadership, but stresses that Anwar Ibrahim has to take over in a two-year period, by 2020, as agreed upon.

“Keadilan supports the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government under Dr. Mahathir’s leadership,” PKR said.

PKR President Anwar Ibrahim also reiterates that he supports Dr. Mahathir Mohamad’s leadership and he will not disrupt his work, but at the same time he hopes that he will not be interrupted when he becomes the next prime minister.

“We give our full support  (to Tun M), let him do his work. I won’t interrupt because I don’t want to disrupt his work.”

“When it is my turn, let me do my work and don’t disrupt me too. This is our mutual understanding,” Anwar was quoted as saying by some media at a “ceramah” in Taman Sri Jenaris recently.

However, since Dr. Mahathir took office after defeating Barisan Nasional (BN) and ousting Najib Razak the then Prime Minister on 9 May 2018 he has never mentioned that he is going to step down in a two-year period or even talked clearly about this matter.

Dr .Mahathir has recently accepted the opposition party, the PAS`s offer to support him against any plot or no confidence that attempts to topple him, in the hope he can stay as prime minister till the next general election (GE15).

The PAS recently alleged that two parties in PH were planning to move a vote of no-confidence against Dr. Mahathir and pledged support for this latter when they met him last week in Putrajaya.

Anwar rubbished this claim and considered it as ‘lies’, and reiterated that he supports Dr. Mahathir to rule till his period is over in two years which is another one year’s time.
