Pharmaniaga never heard of Yong Chee Kong, says its managing director

Sinovac doses to Penang is a ‘scam’
Donation of 2mil doses of Sinovac to Penang is a ‘scam’, said khairy.

PETALING JAYA: Pharmaniaga Bhd, the exclusive distributor of the Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine in Malaysia, has no idea about the man who claimed he wanted to donate two million doses of Sinovac vaccine to Penang.

Pharmaniaga Berhad managing director Datuk Zulkarnain Md Eusope said he (the businessman) has never contacted them.

“They have never contacted us, and we also did not contact them,” he told reporters when he was asked if Yong Chee Kong and his company (Xintai Development Enterprise Ltd) have ever tried to make any purchase of vaccines.

Last week, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said in a press conference that the offer by a private company of two million free doses of Sinovac for Penang was a scam and a bogus.

Khairy also said that an initial check showed that the company “does not exist.”

When Khairy’s office contacted Yong, he claimed he has money in Hong Kong.

Khairy said the man refused to prove that his offer was genuine.

Police are currently investigating on this matter.
