PH retained two seats in the by-elections in Johor

KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan (PH) had succeeded in retaining the Pulai parliamentary seat and the Simpang Jeram state assembly seat in the by-elections held on Saturday (9th Sept.2023).

The Pulai parliamentary seat was won by Suhaizan Kaiat who garnered 48,283 votes with majority 18,641 by defeating his contestant Zulkifli Jaafar from Perikatan Nasional-PN (29,642) while Samsudin Mahaman Fauzi –Independent (528).

The official result was announced by the Pulai parliamentary by-election returning officer Miswan Yunus at the Dewan Jubli Intan Sultan Ibrahim, Johor Bahru at about 10.05pm.

According to Miswan 363 votes were rejected while 47.33 per cent eligible voters casted their votes at the polling stations today.

Meanwhile, Nazri Abdul Rahman from PH had won the Simpang Jeram state assembly seat with 13,844 votes with majority 3,514 by defeating Dr. Mohd.Mazri Yahya (PN) who garnered10,330 votes while S.Jeganathan (Independent) gathered only 311 votes.

The official result was announced by the Simpang Jeram State assembly by-election returning officer Jamil Hasni Abdullah at around 9.15pm at the Dewan Jubli Intan Sultan Ibrahim, Muar, Johor.

Jamil Hasni said, 74 votes had been rejected while 60.85 per cent of the eligible voters had casted their votes today.

A total of 205,810 voters were eligible to vote in the by-elections including 165,509 in Pulai and 40,301 in Simpang Jeram.

There were 47 polling centres in the Pulai constituency and 14 polling centres with 68 channels in the Simpang Jeram constituency.

The Pulai parliamentary seat and Simpang Jeram state assembly seat by elections were held following the death of the Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub on 23rd July 2023 after he had brain haemorrhage on Saturday (July 22) and underwent surgery Sunday morning. – Malaysia World News
