KAJANG Nov.24: The new Federal Government known as “Kerajaan Perpaduan Malaysia” or Malaysian Unity Government will be represented by Pakatan Harapan (PH), Barisan Nasional (BN) and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim this evening.
Anwar who sworn in as the 10th Prime Minister of Malaysia at the Istana Negara this afternoon also declared Monday as a public holiday.
Referring to Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) query of his legitimacy as prime minister and PH’s majority in forming the federal government, Anwar said, he is ready to work with PN despite the discouraging comments made by its Chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Anwar also stressed that the preparation should be made by the unity government to have its strength tested in the Parliament.
“A Parliamentary session will convene on Dec. 19 2022 and firstly there will be a motion of vote of confidence from the government. There should not be any worries about our legitimacy,” Anwar said in his first press conference after being appointed as Malaysian 10th Prime Minister today.
Anwar also mentioned that he would keep his promise not to take his Prime Minister’s salary as to restore the confidence of the people in the administration.
“As I have said before, the first step to restore the confidence of the people and not to be seen that ministers and leaders only think about salary is not to take my salary for the post as prime minister,” he said.
Regarding the post of Deputy Prime Minister, Anwar said, the post will be given to the strongest ally of PH and added currently BN and the biggest component of Sabah and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) are with PH. Consideration will be made on this matter.
Anwar added, the new government has the most support from Members of Parliament with 30 from BN and 22 from GPS apart from the PH component parties. –Malaysia World News
