BENTONG: The Pelangai state seat by-election scheduled on 7th October 2023 will be a three cornered fight between Datuk Amizar Abu Adam (BN-Umno) Haslihelmy DM Zulhasli (Independent) and Kasim Samat from Perikatan Nasional (PN).
However Haslihelmi who is an Umno member of Kampung Sum-Sum membership had been stripped effective today (Saturday) after he decided to contest as an Independent candidate for the Pelangai state seat by-election.
UMNO President, Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said, Haslihelmy had been automatically dropped as a member for contesting as an independent.
“Since Haslihelmi had decided to be an independent candidate, his membership in Umno has been automatically revoked starting today,” Zahid said to reporters when asked on the fate of the businessman after he turned up at the Felda Kamasul Community hall to file his nomination papers today as quoted by NST.
On Friday, it was reported that Haslihelmy was prepared to enter the race to contest the Pelangai state seat by-election as an independent candidate despite knowing that he will be sacked from Umno.
Referring to Haslihelmy, he is Umno member of Kampung Sum-Sum in Janda Baik where former Pelangai assemblyman Datuk Seri Johari Harun had served as the Umno branch chairman before he died in an aircraft crash at Bandar Elmina, Shah Alam on Aug.17, 2023.
The Pelangai state seat is vacant following Johari’s death in the plane crash.
According to Zahid, Johari had garnered a majority of 4,000 at the 15th General Election while Pakatan Harapan candidate obtained 2,000 votes and as such they have 6,000 votes. However Zahid reminded the people not to be over-confident of the situation as the opponent had set their base there.
Zahid said, helping Amizar to win in Pelangai will ensure Datuk Seri Johari’s good deeds and services can be continued and Amizar will perform well to serve the people.
Meanwhile, the Bagan Datuk Member of Parliament is also confident that Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy as Pahang Umno liaison committee chairman who will lead the Pelangai by-election will be able to ensure victory.
BN that has the support of Pakatan Harapan (PH) this time will defend the seat it has held for nine consecutive terms including in the 15th GE via Datuk Johari Harun. –Malaysia World News
