Pakatan Harapan will never dream to become government again after BN comeback

Haven`t been for Dr.Mahathir, Pakatan Harapan (PH) (DAP, PKR, and Amanah) would have never won a general election on 9 May 2018 and ousted Barisan Nasional (BN) (UMNO, MCA, and MIC) which had been in power for 60 years.

The opposition parties had never won any election before until Dr. Mahathir, who was the then Former Prime Minister of Malaysia, joined them in 2016 after UMNO 1MDB scandal revelation.

After GE 14, Dr. Mahathir took on his former protege Najib Razak who has been plagued by allegations of corruption related to 1MDB.

Only Mr. Mahathir could defeat the hegemonic Barisan Nasional (BN) government at that time.

The future to defeat BN again cannot be envisaged or foreseen unless we have someone like Dr. Mahathir with much experience in politics and public support.

When Dr. Mahathir ruled Malaysia for the second time from May 2018 till the end of February 2020, he restored rule of law, gave more freedom to the press, brought all the alleged corrupt UMNO leaders to court and charged them, and gave more equality to Malaysians.

However, he could not fulfill all PH election manifesto promises, which made many people turned against him and his coalition.

Power struggle, Anwar Ibrahim and his supporters persisting Dr. Mahathir should resign and hand power to him (Anwar) in two years’ time resulted in infighting and formed another hindrance towards PH progress.

The situation in PH deteriorated more after PH lost five by-elections to BN. The loss fueled anger and blames among PH leaders and supporters.

On 22 Feb 2020, Pakatan Harapan presidential council wanted to pressure Dr. Mahathir to step down and give way to Anwar, but Dr. Mahathir insisted that he could resign only after the APEC Summit in November 2020.

PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was expecting to become Malaysia’s eighth Prime Minister at the latest by 2020, as there was an agreement signed between PH leaders in May 2018 saying Dr. Mahathir should resign by 2020 and give the baton to Anwar.

On Feb 24, just a few days after Pakatan Harapan presidential council meeting, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad resigned as prime minister, and his political party Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) exit the ruling coalition Pakatan Harapan and form a new government with new coalition partners (UMNO and PAS). As a result, the PH government collapsed and dissolved,

On March 1, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was appointed as the eighth Prime Minister of Malaysia and was sworn before Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at Istana Negara.

Muhyiddin was endorsed by UMNO, PAS, some former PKR leaders, and others to become Prime Minister.

UMNO has now returned to power after Muhyiddin appointed as Prime Minister and formed a new government coalition that consists of Bersatu, Pas, Umno, MCA, MIC, GPS, and others, whereas Ph has been collapsed and ousted with its big leaders on top of them Dr. Mahathir, Anwar Ibrahim, Lim Guan Eng, Mohamad Sabu, and many others.

Even though many top leaders from UMNO are on trial for criminal charges related to corruption and abuse of power, Umno still has so many supporters most of the Malays. So does the PAS.
