
KUALA LUMPUR MAY 14: National archer and Olympian Haziq Kamaruddin died today after he collapsed at his house in Kajang, Selangor.
A family member of Haziq who wished to remain anonymous said Haziq had lost consciousness and collapsed after praying.
According to media reports, Haziq, 27, was rushed to Kajang Hospital where he was confirmed dead.
On the latest development, the swab test of COVID-19 performed on Haziq had confirmed the result was negative. The swab test was followed with a post-mortem and special prayers before Haziq’s body was taken to Melaka in the evening for his burial tomorrow at the Burial Place, Kg. Tersusun Serkam Darat, Merlimau, Melaka.
The information was sent to the media group whatsapp of the Ministry of Youth and Sports here this evening.
Haziq who hailed from Johor had competed in two Olypmic Games namely the London 2012 and Rio 2016 edition and currently working hard to get his placement at the 2021Tokyo Olympics scheduled to be held from July 23 until August 8, 2021.
The national archer had represented Malaysia at various international events and won many medals including gold at the 2011 Asian Grand Prix in Laos and a bronze medal at the 2019 Asia Cup in the Philippines.
Meanwhile, the athlete had also won four gold and two silver medals via individual and team events throughout his participation in the SEA Games from 2011 until 2019.
His excellence performance in archery had made Haziq to be named as Bukit Jalil Sports School Sportsman and the national diving queen, Pandelela Rinong as Sportswoman for 2012. – Malaysia World News
