KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional (PN) Chairman, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said it is crucial for the coalition to win Selangor in the upcoming state elections.
The other states holding elections are Kelantan, Kedah, Penang, Terengganu and Negeri Sembilan.
“Selangor being the most developed state is important as it contributes 24.8 per cent of the national gross domestic product (GDP) which translates to around RM300 billion,” he said.
Muhyiddin who is also the President of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) said it would not be easy for the coalition to capture Selangor.
“If you asked me two to three years ago whether we can take Selangor, I would have said “we will try.”
“Now I will say Insya Allah because there there has been a change in the political landscape after the general election,” Muhyiddin said in an interview with Free Malaysia Today.
The former Prime Minister said that when asked about PN’s objectives for the coming polls.
Muhyiddin added, if PN won in Selangor, it was because the people wanted a change.
