No curfew in Batu Sapi during emergency – PM Muhyiddin


PUTRAJAYA NOV.18: Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the declaration of emergency on parliamentary division election on P.185 Batu Sapi in Sabah is aimed to cancel and postpone the by-election and to save the people’s lives.

Muhyiddin said, the livelihood of the people in Batu Sapi will not be affected with the declaration of the emergency as there will be no curfew or “military government” in Batu Sapi.

“The government’s administration, economic and social activities will continue and subject to the new norms’ practices, regulations and the standard operating procedure (SOP) under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) that is still being imposed in Sabah state.

“On behalf of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) Government, I will give assurance that once the COVID-19 pandemic ends, Batu Sapi by-election will be held in the soonest possible time depending on the provision of the Federal Constitution.

“When the by-election is held, the voters will be able to implement their democratic rights in a more safer, peaceful and harmonious atmosphere,” said Muhyiddin in his speech on a local TV that was live telecasted here today.

Earlier Muhyiddin said, he is greatful to His Majesty Yang di-Pertuan Agong who had consented on the declaration of emergency on Batu Sapi by-election.

With the consent, Muhyiddin said, His Majesty has announced one Ordinance following Clause (2B) Article 150 Federal Constitution to cancel and postpone the Batu Sapi by-election.

The Prime Minister added, on behalf of the Cabinet Ministers, he thanked His Majesty Yang di-Pertuan Agong who has consented to the advice of the Ministers to declare emergency on the parliamentary division election P.185 Batu Sapi, Sabah.

“His Majesty’s consent on the declaration of emergency on the by-election in Batu Sapi only shows his concern on the safety and the prosperity of the people and I believe they are very close to his heart.

“I pray to Allah SWT that the measures taken by the government will be a blessing that could help contain COVID-19 and protect the people’s lives. This measure is also in line with the wishes of majority of the people who do not want to have election while the COVID-19 pandemic is still affecting the country.-Malaysia World News
