No change in the top post for Wanita UMNO

KUALA LUMPUR: 12 Mac – UMNO election committee chairman, Tan Sri Shahrir Samad has confirmed three top positions namely UMNO Youth, Wanita and Puteri wings in the party polls have secured votes with only eight divisions left to be accounted.

Shahrir said the victory for the several top posts was unofficial as of 8.00 pm today.

“There is no change in the top post for Wanita UMNO. The Parit Sulong Member of Parliament (MP) Datuk Dr. Noraini Ahmad retains her position as the UMNO Wanita Chief for another term after defeating her challenger Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil. However, Wanita Deputy Chief is held by Datuk Norliza Abd. Rahim.

“Yesterday we held the wing representatives at the division level. The counting of votes had started last night until 8.00 pm Sunday.

“The total and the results of the voting process had been sent by the divisions to the UMNO Headquarters. The unofficial results could be seen until 8.00 pm today.

“At the Wanita Chief level and the Youth Movement as well as Puteri the results have been seen even though seven or eight divisions have not sent the results,” he said at the press conference at UMNO Headquarters, Menara Dato Onn here.

According to Shahrir, the two wings have obtained a new chief and the deputy chief.

“At the Puteri UMNO Movement level, Datuk Nurul Amal Mohd. Fauzi had been voted as the Chief while Puteri Deputy Chief goes to Siti Sokhleha Nordin and their positions will not be threatened,” Shahrir said.

He added, for the post of UMNO Youth Chief, Dr. Akmal Saleh maintains his position by leaving behind other challengers. The remaining divisions that have not sent in the results would not change his position.

For the post of UMNO Youth Deputy Chief, Shahrir said there is a stiff challenge between Mohd. Hairi Md. Shah and his challenger Ikmal Hazlan Ikmal Hisham and their victories have not been finalized.

“I will confirm it officially when all the results have been received,” he said.

As quoted by UMNO Online, 164,000 representatives have cast their votes to ensure the positions of the candidates that have offered themselves to fill the posts that have been contested on Saturday.

Meanwhile, 189 divisions held the wings’ meeting at the division levels Saturday following two divisions namely UMNO Tanah Merah Division and UMNO Kota Kinabalu Division being suspended. – Malaysia World News
