KUALA LUMPUR JAN.10: Malaysia has repeatedly affirms that “lockdown” cannot be implemented again even if there are COVID-19 and Omicron variant cases nationwide.

Chairman of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said, only without the implementation of lockdown, the NRP will not be affected.

Muhyiddin said, Malaysia is one of the countries that have the best COVID-19 pandemic management system achieved through effective measures taken by the Ministry of Health (MOH) and Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovations (MOSTI).

“The National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme is also one of the best in the world with 100 per cent success results and this situation is considered far better than in some developed countries.

“Most importantly, the people should support the government’s whole society approach by adhering to the standard operating procedures (SOPs), wearing masks and social distancing,” Muhyiddin said in a press conference held today.

Muhyiddin said, the MOH and the Ministry of Home Affairs have to propose the measures as to when and how the national borders will be opened in stages.

He said, the national recovery plan could only be achieved fast through a clear plan in the opening of the national borders.

Emphasizing on the spreading trends of Omicron variants in certain countries Muhyiddin said, most importantly the public health system initiatives during COVID-19 pandemic should be improvised and continued.

“Both MOH and Ministry of Home Affairs should consider some countries manage the COVID-19 pandemic well and people from these countries should be permitted to enter Malaysia with strict SOPs and PCR tests,” he added.

The former Prime Minister Muhyiddin also stressed that the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) should ensure flood victims receive early aids and early preparations should be made before flood hit any place in the country.

He said NADMA should identify the new trends and new norms in years to come in the flood areas.

Muhyiddin added, if the problems are not rectified than every year the same flood will happen and the cost effects will be very high to the country.

Meanwhile, he said, a special team is formed to draft the National Recovery Plan (2.0) including planning strategies and set milestone to ensure the recovery could be achieved the soonest. – Malaysia World News
