Kuala Lumpur: The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) journalist, Tom Wright, who is one of the co-authors of the book “Billion Dollar Whale” on the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal, said that Najib`s recent revealed documents did not explain why he received US$681 million in 1MDB cash.
He also claims that he long time knew about the documents that former prime minister Datuk Seri Najb Razak had just revealed on Monday, it was nothing new.
Najib was not offering anything new with his disclosure of documents related to the donations from the Saudi royal family received in 2011, they said.
Investigators around the world have said the bulk of the US$1 billion Najib received came from 1MDB, Tom Wright argued.
“Najib Razak on Facebook says he received millions from Saudi Arabia in 2011. We have always reported that.
“It has nothing to do with US$681 million in 2013 that came from 1MDB, not to mention tens of millions more from the fund,” he said in his tweet.
Najib on Monday posted on his Facebook page three documents he claimed were proofs that he received donations from Saudi Arabia Royalty in 2011.
Najib revealed a document saying that a donation of USD100 Million came from Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah Abdulaziz Al Saud in 2011.
Najib also promised he would reveal more on the issue of the RM2.6 billion issue soon.
The documents he shared were financial transaction statements and letters dated Feb 24 and Nov 25, 2011.
Najib also claimed that he and his lawyers” spent a long time” getting the documents.
However, Wright argued Najib’s claim: “We’ve had them for years, and there’s nothing new in them. And they don’t explain why he received US$681 million in 1MDB cash.”-Malaysia World News.
