SHAH ALAM 10 Nov – Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak urged the Malays to feel “hungry for success” in order to move forward with dedication, preseverence, right working culture and mindset in line with the National Transformation 2050 (TN50).
He said, to reach success the Malays should not be complacent and stay in the comfort zone but instead exert themselves as global players.
“The success agenda for the Malays and the Bumiputeras is a national plan but at the same time the non Malays are not left behind. They can embrace any religion and culture. But the Malays and Islam become the focus, and this is stipulated in the Malaysian Constitution.
“The Malays have been successful in many aspects because they follow the programmes which have been laid by UMNO and the Federal Government.
“The study done by the Khazanah Research Institute on the nations’s social mobility found out that, most Malay children from families with the lowest 40 percent income (B40) have surpassed their parents and become successful today.
“This shows the social mobility in Malaysia is very good as poverty could be eradicated within a generation. In other word, our social mobility is better than that of United Kingdom and United States of America,” he said at the closing ceremony of the National Integration Convention 2016 with the theme ‘Malay Unity in Retrospect’ at UiTM, Shah Alam today.
The Vice Chancellor of UiTM, Prof. Emeritus Datuk Dr. Hassan Said, then handed a document with six resolutions derived from the three day convention to the Prime Minister.
The six resolutions are as follows:
- To strengthen the role of UiTM as an institution and catalyst for the unity of the Malays.
- To uphold Malay cultural values based on Islamic teachings that encompass all aspects of life.
- To urge the government to emphasize on the preservation of Malay origin history and the scientific study of the Malays.
- To urge the Bumiputera economic community to change their thinking , attitude and entrepreneurial culture, to become leaders in the country’s economic agenda.
- To recommend the government to develop the concept of waqf as an economic reference model trusted by the public.
- To recommend that the Malay Unity Agenda is designated as a Permanent Agenda and adopted as a National Agenda to ensure the prosperity of all Malaysians.
