PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced today that Parliament will be dissolved tomorrow, effective from Saturday (April 7).
He announced this today after having sought an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V yesterday night.
The King gave his consent to dissolve Parliament.
Addressing the nation in a live telecast from Perdana Putra Complex, Najib said: “I hope the rakyat (people) will choose a government that has done its best for the people.”
“Barisan Nasional (BN) Government has successfully delivered its promises to the people and if given the mandate again to us we will deliver more effectively,” he said in his speech before announcing the dissolution of Parliament.
He also hopes the people will think wisely and not emotionally influenced by others in this general election and hence evaluate the BN efforts in stabilising the country for the past six decades.
The prime minister also said he and other BN leaders will go down to meet the people to explain BN manifesto and if given another chance will become a stronger government.
The general election must be held within 60 days starting from tomorrow.
