KUALA LUMPUR: The future of the country is for the Malaysians to decide and other countries or individuals should not tell us what to do.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said, Malaysians should decide themselves on the basis of facts not the fake news of lies, propaganda, false promises and illusions.

“As you know the people of the country will soon be making their choice. Barisan Nasional (BN) will continue to preserve the liberty and safety enjoyed by Malaysians while increasing our efforts to manage and contain all present and future threats,” Najib said.

Najib was delivering his speech at Putrajaya Forum 2018 with the theme “Recalibrating Regional Security Architecture” at MATRADE.

The forum was held in conjunction with the 16th Defence Services Asia (DSA) and NATSEC Asia 2018 held at MITEC.

Najib added, BN government is doing the utmost to protect Malaysians and this means protecting them from the scourge of fake news.

He added, that is why the government recently passed an act to combat this.

The Prime Minister also added, fake news can also pose a security threat and we have seen many instances around the world where, contrary to ZOPFAN principles, fake news has been used as a tool of interference by outside powers which strongly some opposition leaders now welcome.

“As patriotic Malaysian, I can tell you that members of my government do not and will not compromise our sovereignty by allowing other countries or individusls to tell us what to do,” he said.
