PEKAN: The Barisan Nasional (BN) government has always emphasized on the importance of education and set aside financial allocation twice the amount more than other ASEAN countries.

BN Chairman, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said, the government’s commitment in education is very high and this is something that most people do not know and appreciate.

He said, a primary school student’s subsidy can be as high as RM8, 000 per year and about RM9, 000 per year for a secondary school student.

Apart from that Najib added, the government has to bear 90% of the
education costs for the students of the public higher education
institutions.

“Everybody is accessible to quality education regardless of socio- economic status, race or religion. It is up to them to pursue and choose what they want,” he said at the launch of the Pekan Teachers’ Day Celebration and Educational Excellence Award here on Sunday.

Meanwhile he stressed BN will continue to “democratise” the education should it be given the mandate to form a government again.

Najib also expressed his happiness that the BN government has been successful in implementing the education principle and becoming into reality in a short time.

He added, the progress of education in Malaysia is different from many countries be it advanced or developing. –Malaysia World News
