Twenty two local journalists from 17 news agencies were present today in the two day workshop held in Kuching, Sarawak.
The workshop was conducted by three speakers namely, Robert Jensen, Senior Managing Director, Strat3 LLC, Fairfax, VA; Dr. Jafri Abdul Jalil, Director, Operation Coordination Division, National Disaster Management Agency Malaysia (NADMA); Dr. Farizal Mohd. Razalli, Lecturer in Strategy Programme, National University of Malaysia (UKM); Cdr. Sean Riordan, US Naval Officer, Communication Advisor, Singapore and Zam Yusa, Regional Security Journalist,Kota Kinabal, Sabah.
Meanwhile, Datuk Chamil said, the workshop provides Malaysian journalists with a forum to evaluate and discuss best practices in the coverage of security, defence, disaster response and humanitarian relief across Southeast Asia.
“It is also aimed to relate best practices, exchange lessons learned and discuss strategic initiatives and adaptations designed to meet the challenges facing the security issues in the region.”
The MPI Chairman said that in his opening remarks at the workshop that started today and will end tomorrow 11th April with the Media/VIP tour of USNS Fall River and reception aboard.
He also mentioned amongst the objectives of the workshop is to enhance the role of the media in peace building, conflict prevention, disaster preparedness and humanitarian relief. -Malaysia World News
