Muslim preacher arrested in Malaysia for allegedly insulting Hinduism

PETALING JAYA: The controversial Muslim preacher, Muhammad Zamri Vinoth Kalimuthu was arrested by police in Perlis yesterday for allegedly insulting Hinduism.

It is reported that he is one of the followers of Indian preacher Zakir Naik who is wanted by the Indian government.

He was arrested after several police reports lodged against him by several NGOs and individuals for allegedly insulting Hinduism.

Muhammad Zamri, 35, triggered controversy when he made an allegedly offensive speech at the As Siddiqin Mosque in Kampung Panchor, Kelantan, on Dec 30 last year. His 57-minute video was uploaded on the YouTube.

Zamri was arrested by the Serious Crimes Investigation Unit (D9) in front in Arau at 2.30am.

According to local media, he is being investigated under Section 298A of the Penal Code for causing disunity and spurring hatred among the people and Section 233 of the Multimedia and Com­munications Act for misusing network facilities and services.
