KUALA LUMPUR: About 100 people from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) protested against the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in front of Sogo Mall today.

The protesters led by PPBM President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin began to gather in front of the mall about 4 pm.

The protest was also attended by PPBM Secretary, Suhaimi Yahya, Councillor Aby Bakar Yahya, Youth Exco Redzuan Shafi and PPBM Federal District Youth Leader Zahin Zainal.

The protesters walked along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman holding placards and distributing flyers to the public.

They also entered the shopping mall where Muhyiddin showed goods` receipts stating GST payment to the media.

Talking to reporters, Muhyiddin said, the protest against GST has entered the third year. The government has already collected billions of money from it. They took this money from poor people.

He also reminded the people that this tax is really cruel, implemented on the people no matter rich or poor, and beggars also need to pay GST. The people are angry with GST but Najib does not care.

Meanwhile, PPBM Youth Exco Redzuan Shafi told Malaysia World News that Pakatan Harapan wants to abolish GST because it is against their principle.

“The government promised the price of goods will not increase but what has happened now is contradicting to what they said. Prices of goods keep increasing each year,” he added.

However, according to the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Barisan Nasional Government the prices of products have not increased since the implementation of GST. They also insist that GST is obligatory and important for the economy of the nation, citing that GST is also implemented by other countries.
