MOROCCO shocked Spain by beating it 3-0 in a penalty shootout on Tuesday and went through to the quarter-finals for the first time in Fifa World Cup history.Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou appeared the team’s hero after saving two penalty kicks taken by Carlos Soler and Sergio Busquets while Pablo Sarabia’s kick simply shook the goalpost.

Abdelhamid Sabiri, Hakim Ziyech, and Achraf Hakimi brilliantly conceded penalties to ensure Morocco’s 3-0 win thus confirming the African giants’ advance to the quarter-finals.

It is also history for Morocco, which has made it to six appearances at the World Cup.

Spain had been hoping they could repeat their 2010 World Cup triumph

Morocco has been the biggest surprise of the tournament and will next face either Portugal or Switzerland.

Morocco is also the only team from outside Europe or South America to make it to the last eight. The team made the round of 16 once before, at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.
