More than 3000 protesters rallied in KL to defend Islam and TMJ

KUALA LUMPUR, May 4: More than 3000 people gathered here today around Sogo in a “405” rally which was organized by the Gerakan Pembela Ummah and several NGOs supposedly to defend the “sovereignty of Islam” .

Marching from Masjid Jamek to the Sogo shopping complex, protesters were seen carrying many placards with slogans like “Respect the institution of the monarchy”, “Defend the sovereignty of Islam” and “TMJ continue your fight” . TMJ is Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim.

Most of the speakers at the Rally shed light on the death of fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim and expressed their concern over the alleged threat to the institution of Malay rulers.

 Umno Youth chief Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki and PAS deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man were among the protesters.

“We also call for (Attorney General) Tommy Thomas to resign for allowing the institution of the monarchy to be insulted,” Dr.Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki told the crowd.

Police were seen monitoring the situation and on crowd control duty. The rally started around 2pm and ended around 5pm due to heavy rain. – Malaysia World News
