Putrajaya: Monsoon season is expected to begin in the northeast this week (on Nov 7) and continue until March next year, the Malaysian Meteorological Department warned yesterday.
In a statement, it said the monsoon would likely see continuous heavy rain and strong northeasterly winds.
“As in previous seasons, continuous heavy rain for several days might result in flooding in low-lying areas and near rivers.
“If continuous heavy rain occurs at the same time as a high tide event, the risk of flooding might increase, ” it said.
MetMalaysia also predictd high tide events from Nov 6 to 11, and 22 to 27; Dec 7 to 12, and 22 to 26; and Jan 6 to 10, and 21 to 25.
“The public is advised to prepare for the monsoon season and to remain alert and follow the weather warnings issued by MetMalaysia,” the statement added.
