PUTRAJAYA: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abd. Kadir is scheduled to deliver a lecture on strengthening bilateral relations between Malaysia and Indonesia to the students of Bina Nusantara (BINUS) University, Jakarta on his official visit to Jakarta, the Republic of Indonesia from 28th -30th 2022.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said the Minister will also have engagement sessions with the Indonesia-Malaysia Business Council (IMBC), Indonesian youth leaders as well as Malaysian diaspora in Jakarta.
“The minister who is accompanied by officials from the ministry is on his first official visit to Indonesia since his appointment on 2nd Dec.2022.
“He is also scheduled to pay a courtesy call on the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo. The call will be preceded by a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Retno L.P. Marsudi,” MOFA said in a statement.
The statement added the official visit reflects the close and comprehensive ties between the two immediate neighbors. It will provide an opportunity for both sides to take stock of the progress of bilateral cooperation, explore new potentials for a more comprehensive partnership, as well as discuss joint efforts in addressing regional and global challenges.
The statement highlighted that in the year 2021, Indonesia was Malaysia’s seventh-largest trading partner and third-largest among ASEAN member states with total trade of RM95.31 billion (USD22.98 billion).
“Between January – October 2022, the total trade reached RM110.44 billion (USD25.19 billion), an increase of 47.2% compared to RM75.03 billion (USD18.14 billion) for the same period in the year 2021,” the statement said. –Malaysia World News
