KUALA LUMPUR: Women, Family and Community Development Minister Rina Harun has settled her multimillion-ringgit debts to the Paris-based film and television programme production company.
Lawyer Mark Ho Hing Kheong, who represented Sarl Novovision has confirmed the money has been already paid.
“We received a cheque on Wednesday and it was cleared the following day,” he told FMT today.
It was reported that Rina through her now-defunct companies Eurofine (M) Sdn Bhd, Fine Mobile Network Sdn Bhd and Fine TV Network Sdn Bhd, had purchased several comedy shows and documentaries worth millions of Ringgit from the French-based production company between 2011 and 2013.
According to court documents obtained by the media, a statement of claim against Rina was filed on November 8, 2018, for US$553,795 (RM2.3 million) by the French firm and that the full amount must be paid by July 31, 2019.
On 17th Nov 2020, Rina was served a bankruptcy notice for debts owed to the company to the tune of RM1,340,642.02.
By paying her debts, the Titiwangsa MP has escaped being declared a bankrupt which was threatening her position as a Member of Parliament.
