Microsoft to increase investment to RM10.5 billion within four years –PM Anwar

PUTRAJAYA: Microsoft has agreed to increase its investment amounting to RM10.5 billion (USD2.2 billion) for the period of four years.

Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said, this is the biggest investment from Microsoft at any one time after 32 years of its establishment in Malaysia.

“This investment includes the system development and cloud system and Artificial Intelligence (AI), the formation of AI skill opportunities for additional 300,000 people, the establishment of a National AI Excellence Centre, increase the national cyber security capacity and support the growth of community development system in Malaysia,” Anwar said in his Facebook post here Thursday.

Earlier the prime minister said, he had received a courtesy call from the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Microsoft, Satya Nadella and delegation in Putrajaya, Thursday.

“Malaysia welcomes the investment’s decision and this has proven their confidence towards the strong basic national economy, clear and directed policies besides investment friendly and political stability.

“This investment is in line and will be the main supporter to the government’s focus in the AI capacity development in the country,” Anwar added.

According to the prime minister, after the courtesy call, he and Satya attended the National AI Leadership Forum and they also had the opportunity to have a dialogue on technology relating to AI and the government’s plan to prepare the country with this flow of change.
