META agrees to work closely with MACC and RPM to combat online crimes, says Minister Fahmi

KUALA LUMPUR:  The Malaysians have incurred losses close to RM330 million from January until May 2023 via the platform META (Facebook, Instagram, and Whatsapp) says the Minister of Communications and Digital, Fahmi Fadzil.

Fahmi said this amount has increased by 25 percent compared to January-December 2022.

“Following the increase in cheating cases, online gambling, and the 3R issues, I have requested META to have a meeting with the Royal Police Malaysia (RPM) and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC),” Fahmi said in his Facebook post Tuesday.

The minister said, Alhamdulillah in the meeting META has stated their commitment and preparedness to work closely with MACC and RPM to combat online crimes.

“I believe with this cooperation, scam crimes, online gambling and 3R issues in META platform will be reduced,” Fahmi reiterated.

Present at the meeting held at RPM Head Office, Bukit Aman today include Inspector General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain and the RPM highest management personnel, Deputy Minister, Teo Nie Ching; Deputy Secretary General of Ministry of Communications and Digital Ma Sivanesan and Chief Executive Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia, Datuk Dr. Amiruddin Abdul Wahab. –Malaysia World News
