KUALA LUMPUR –The usage of high technology in health and medical services should be handled by well trained experts in every armed forces team as to guarantee their “strengths” in a battlefield.
The Royal Medical Corps, Colonel-in-Chief, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah said, the presence of medical expert team equipped with modern and latest equipments would give psychological comfort to the soldiers in a battlefield.
“Armed Forces in most developed countries placed military medicine as prime importance apart from allocating big expenditures to move forward, modernise and train the military medical teams,” said Sultan Nazrin
Sultan Nazrin said that at the Malaysian Military Medicine Conference held at Wisma Perwira, Ministry of Defence Tuesday morning.
The two day conference was held in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Royal Medical Corps. About 300, mostly medical doctors, experts and staff from relevant fields in the Malaysian Armed Forces attended the conference with the theme “Military Medicine – Present and Future.”
Sultan Nazrin also emphasized that the military medicine is an expertise field which is different from the civil medicine expert.
“The military experiences in certain medical services such as orthopaedics, plastic surgery, neurology surgery, prostatic and rehabilitation medication have benefitted the civilians.
“The development in the military medicine has increased the level of survival in battlefields. The development in medical evacuation, battlefield medicine and trauma care have saved many lives in a war,” Sultan Nazrin said.
Sultan Nazrin also urged the Royal Medical Corps to help formulate relevant health programmes to guide the armed forces personnel and their families to follow healthy, active and intelligent life styles apart from increasing preventive measures for illnesses.
Meanwhile the Director General of the Malaysian Armed Forces Health Services, Lieutenant General Datuk (Dr.) Ya’akop Koming, MPH said, the main goal of the conference is to deliver and strengthen the bonds of professionalism in Military Medicine in collaboration with members of the Malaysian Armed Forces Health Services in all fields.
He also said the conference is also a platform to share knowledge, experience and expertise and to enhance military medicine networks with civilian stakeholders in this country.
“Currently we have 145 medical experts in various fields. Even though priority is given to the Malaysian Armed Forces personnel but we still receive other patients who are specially referred to our medical experts,” he said to the media today.
Amongst the medical expertise provided by certain military hospital under the Royal Medical Corps include cardiac catheterisation laboratory, lasik and hyperbaric services. – Malaysia World News
