Media practitioners advised not to do field work if not vaccinated -NUJM

KUALA LUMPUR JUNE 9: The National Union of Journalists of Peninsular Malaysia (NUJM) calls on all media practitioners who have not been vaccinated to refrain from going to any field reporting or coverage in public places.

The NUJM President, Farah Marshita Abd. Patah said, this action is part of the union’s efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19 among media personnel who have so far not received their vaccination.

Farah said, in this regard, NUJM calls the cooperation from the management of private media companies as well as the government including the editor-in – chief to only send media personnel who have been vaccinated to do ground reporting.

“For those who have been vaccinated and are in the field, they are reminded to always adhere to the standard operating procedure and personal safety,” Farah said in a statement here today.

The NUJM President added, as of today, Wednesday June 9, 2021, only a handful of media personnel have received notification for their vaccination dates, while majority of them across the country are still waiting.

“Looking at the current political situation in the country, it is a concern for NUJM when many media personnel have started to “camp” in the field to provide the latest news updates.

Therefore, it is not impossible, if in the near
future while doing coverage, some media personnel may be exposed to the COVID-19 transmission and will infect others.

“NUJM once again calls on the government to expedite the vaccination of media personnel as promised to us in the first week of June.

However, until now, there has been no response,” Farah said. _Malaysia World News
