Manufacturing sales grew 72.5% worth RM130.6 billion in April 2021 amidst COVID-19 pandemic

PUTRAJAYA JUNE 11: Malaysia’s manufacturing sales in April 2021 stood at RM130.6 billion with 72.5 per cent growth as compared to 2020.
 
Chief Statistician Malaysia, Datuk Seri Dr. Mohd. Uzir Mahidin said, the sharp growth increment in April 2021 was a reflection of recovery due to base effect from the implementation of Movement Control Order (MCO) 1.0 last year.
 
He said, the sharp increase was driven by transport equipment and other manufacture products (332.4%), electrical & electronic products (80.2%) and petroleum, chemical, rubber and plastic products (49.1%) Mohd Uzir Mahidin added, the total employees engaged in the manufacturing sector in April 2021 were 2,235,004 persons, an increase of 3.0 per cent as compared to 2,169,473 persons in April 2020.
 
The salaries and wages paid amounted to RM7, 385.6 million, increased by 8.2 per cent or RM560.2 million in April 2021 as against the same month of the preceding year. 
 
“Simultaneously, the sales value per employee rose by 67.4 per cent to record RM58, 454 as compared with the same month in 2020. Meanwhile, the average salaries & wages per employee was RM3, 304 in April 2021,” Mohd. Uzir said in a statement here today. –Malaysia World News
