PETALING JAYA: The man who was caught in CCTV throwing a Hindu idol into a dustbin in Senai, Johor, on May 15 has been fined RM2,500 by the court.

Gabriele Jungkak Anak Steward, 23, pleaded guilty to committing mischief under Section 427 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum five-year prison term or a fine or both.

CCTV footage went viral on social media showing the man, who was dressed in a sarong and songkok, removing the Hindu idol from a water fountain belonging to TS Dineshwaran and throwing it into a dustbin at Taman Scientex Senai.

The Malaysian Gazette reported that Gabriele told the magistrates’ court he threw away the Lord Ganesha statue because it “disturbed” him when he walked by it.
