KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said it’s high time Malaysians should “start to live with Covid-19.”
He said this as the country has recorded over 30,000 new infections daily these last few days and there is no sign the number is decreasing any soon, despite of the successful immunization programmes that saw almost all Malaysian population got vaccinated.
Reports said, many countries across the globe have declared endemic, opened their international borders and adapted to live with the virus. Some countries have even lifted the movement restrictions and the precaution measures such as the mandatory face mask wear and scanning.
According to Khairy, Malaysia is not yet ready for endemicity. The government should first strengthen the existing public health measures and strategies against Covid-19.
Khairy, however, pointed out that although the daily case rate is still high, there is a decrease in the number of hospitalisations, admissions to intensive care units (ICU) and mortality rate.
Khairy said this during the launch of the 16th National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia Annual Dialysis Conference 2022 in Petaling Jaya today.
