KUALA LUMPUR: Police are looking for the British journalist Clare Brown @ Clare Rewcastle-Brown after she failed to show up at court to face a charge of defaming the Sultanah of Terengganu, Sultanah Nur Zahirah.
Kuala Terengganu magistrate’s court had issued an arrest warrant against the Sarawak Report editor on September 23.
Federal Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Abd Jalil Hassan said the case was being investigated under Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamation and he urged the public who have any information about the wanted journalist to inform the police as soon as possible.
“Those who know or have information on this person are urged to contact Classified Criminal Investigation Unit chief Superintendent Junainah M. Kasbolah at 019-7051222 or investigating officer Assistant Superintendent Mohd Khairul Ridzuan Khiruddin at 017-6404440,” he said in a statement yesterday.
However, a report said that Clare Rewcastle Brown claimed that the police know where she is.
“If they hope someone will ring up with dirt about me, they will be disappointed as I live a very boring but happy life.
“They should focus on crooks who are stealing from Malaysia,” she told Free Malaysia today.
Rewcastle Brown said the police had texted her directly in the past and the authorities knew “all there is to know”, including details on her whereabouts.
“So they could pick up the phone and call me, and I can inform them,” she said.
