Malaysian people and politicians express condolences after death of Japan’s ex-PM Shinzo Abe

PUTRAJAYA JULY 8: The government and the people of Malaysia express their profound condolences to the government and people of Japan and the family of the demised former Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah said, Shinzo Abe is an iconic leader who will always be remembered for his contributions to the economic development of Japan through “Abenomics”.

Saifuddin added, Abe had served two terms as Prime Minister and became Japan’s longest-serving Head of Government. As Prime Minister, Abe had visited Malaysia three times and played a key role in advancing and diversifying further bilateral relations with Malaysia.

“Shinzo Abe had also contributed significantly to Malaysia’s Look East Policy. Most recently, he represented the Japanese Government as the Special Envoy of the Prime Minister of Japan to commemorate the policy’s 40th anniversary in Kuala Lumpur.

“Abe’s legacy and contributions will be treasured and continue to live on,” Saifuddin said in a statement here today.

Saifuddin was responding on behalf of the government over the death of Shinzo Abe today after he was shot while giving a speech at an election campaign in Nara, Japan.

Abe 67, was shot in the neck from behind when he was giving a speech at a drab traffic island in the western city of Nara, Japan as reported by the media. –Malaysia World News
