KUALA LUMPUR: A Malaysian citizen was confirmed to be one of the victims in the rampant shooting tragedy in one of the two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand recently.

 The Malaysian High Commissioner in Wellington in the Twitter updates said, the victim is injured and now undergoing treatment at the nearest hospital.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister, Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah has also confirmed in the Twitter that a Malaysian is one of the victims in the shooting incident in New Zealand.    

On the development of the deadly tragedy, New Zealand police have asked all mosques to shut their doors until further notice following the shooting incidents with multiple fatalities at two mosques.

According to the police, one person is in custody and not sure of how many more is involved in the Christchurch mosques attacks. 

Police Commissioner Mike Bush said, the police will give updates of the situation and request the people to stay in their houses for safety.

Radio NZ confirmed the two shootings happened at the Masjid Al-Noor next to Hagley Park and at the Linwood Masjid in the suburb of Linwood.

It is also believed that the gunman posted his plans on the social media and made a live streamed attack.

At least nine people have been killed with dozens injured while eyewitnesses said “there was blood everywhere”, reported Stuff.co.nz and Radio NZ.

The shooter was described as “white skinned, blonde, quite short and wearing a helmet and a bulletproof vest, according to a witness who broke a window in a door to escape from the mosque. –Malaysia World News
