Malaysia to be involved in the manufacturing of aerospace balloon –PM Ismail

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia International Agricommodity Expo and Summit (MiACES) held here today for the first time in Asia is able to generate RM300 billion worth of exports and becomes a platform for local agricommodity industry players to expand their export products to new markets.

Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said, local industry players are able to penetrate new markets because the expo is attended by product producers, innovators, investors, exporters, importers and also policy makers, researchers and academicians from 39 countries.

Ismail said, MiACES 2022 could also be the best platform to promote products and technology related to palm oil industry, rubber, wood, cocoa, chillies and “kenaf” to the international level.

“The agricommodity sector provides job opportunities to nearly one million Malaysian Family in the upstream level, elevate the standard of living and people’s income especially small holders and community outside the city since decades ago,” Ismail said when officiating MiACES at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here today.

The Prime Minister added, even though the productivity of palm oil had dropped low last year due to bad weather but the agricommodity sector remains strong. Until February this year the value of export commodities had increased five per cent involving RM31.6 billion compared to the same period last year.

“Towards the end of last year, this sector had reached trade value totalling RM270.2 billion – an increase of 39.7 per cent compared to the year before,” Ismail said.

“The certified wood product from Malaysia had been used in building Japan National Stadium for Olympic Games 2020. Besides that the national furniture is undergoing transformation and we can be proud as it could produce the furniture design that has been popular internationally under the brand “Tanggam”.

“The latest research result is being led by a Malaysian with the cooperation of a renowned world university where a new generation rubber composite had successfully being created as a result of the combination of grapheme extract and original rubber.

“This new rubber composite will be used in the manufacturing of aerospace balloon and this is the first of its kind in the world. This new finding will enable Malaysia to be involved in a high value industry and explore new markets involving satellite application and aerospace and help to increase the value of the national export product,” Ismail said.

Ismail also mentioned that for the palm oil product, the companies belonging to the Chinese Government with the cooperation of Malaysian companies and MPOB are to produce hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) and fuel for sustainable flight (SAF) in Malaysia involving foreign direct investment (FDI) worth RM6 billion.

“The companies from China include Shanxi Construction Investment Group Co. Ltd. (SCIG) and Institute of Coal Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ICC-CAS) while the Malaysian companies are Pengerang Maritime Industries Sdn. Bhd. (Benalec) and Sabah Oil and Gas Development Corporation (SOGDC).
