PHNOM PENH FEB.17: Malaysia has urged ASEAN to act on the principles of consultation and constructive engagement in seeking a peaceful solution and a return to normalcy in Myanmar.
Foreign Minister, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah said, this solution must respect the will and aspiration of the people of Myanmar. Malaysia reiterates the full support for the Five Point Consensus
“We support the role of Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn as the Special Envoy of ASEAN Chair on Myanmar and wish him all the best on his proposed visit to Myanmar in March 2022,” Saifuddin said in his Facebook post today.
Saifuddin said that after attending the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat in Phnom Penh today.
“In this context, I call on the Special Envoy to also meet with the National Unity Government (NUG) representatives. Last night I watched the video of the NUG Foreign Minister’s recorded speech addressing this retreat.
“I propose that the Special Envoy also meet with the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC) which is a platform for dialogue and policy coordination, comprising the NUG, elected parliamentarians, political parties, Interim State Representatives Groups, civil society and non-violent protest groups and armed groups.
“I would also propose the Special Envoy to look at the results of the Peoples’ Assembly which held its meeting on 27-29 January 2022,” Saifuddin said. – Malaysia World News
