Malaysia signed Film Co-Production Agreement with Australia to market local film production globally-Minister Saifuddin

PUTRAJAYA JULY 9: The Film Co-Production Agreement between the Government of Malaysia and Australia has been effective starting July 2021.
 
The Ministry of Communication and Multimedia Malaysia (MCMM) said, this
agreement is among the initiatives under the local film development industry for international market led by the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) an agency under MCMM.
 
MCMM in its statement said, this agreement is among the high impact initiatives that is capable to develop the local creative industry besides opening more opportunities to creative industry players via cooperative network with Australia.
 
“Through this agreement, production from Malaysia will be regarded as the local production of Australia that enables Malaysian film production to penetrate into other countries that have signed the agreement with Australia such as Canada, China, Singapore, Italy, German and United Kingdom,” said MCMM Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah in the statement.
 
Saifuddin added, the joint effort is expected to stimulate the economic growth for local creative industry, the chain industries and the direct and indirect support involved.
 
“I hope the establishment of the joint effort between the two countries will strengthen the sharing strategy in film production, elevate the quality and quantity of film production, encouraging the skill development on local
production and to enable the exchange of culture and production creativity between Malaysian and Australia,” Saifuddin added.
