SEPANG:The Mecca Route Service (MRS), initiated by the government of Saudi Arabia since 2017, is aimed at easing the management of the umrah and hajj pilgrims flights to Mecca and Medina.

The Foreign Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abd. Kadir, said the cooperation of MRS in Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), which is led by the Wakaf Department, Zakat and Hajj (JAWHAR), Lembaga Tabung Haji, and Malaysia Airport Holding, is expected to handle 31,600 Malaysian pilgrims this year.

“Through this initiative, the Malaysian pilgrims’ management will be more systematic and effective, which will subsequently help the pilgrims’ travel to Mecca and Medina.

“On behalf of the Malaysian government, I record my highest appreciation to the government of Saudi Arabia for continuing to choose Malaysia for the MRS initiative,” he said to the media at the KLIA VIP room on Wednesday.

The minister stressed that Malaysia is one of the seven countries chosen by the government of Saudi Arabia to implement the MRS operation.

He also emphasised that on behalf of the Ministry, the Embassy of Malaysia in Saudi Arabia, including the “Malawakil” in Riyadh, Jeddah, Mecca, and Medina, are ready to receive any Malaysian who faces any difficulty or anything to be referred to when they arrive in Saudi Arabia.
