Malaysia might get barred from participating in Tokyo Olympic Games 2020

PUTRAJAYA JUNE 8: Malaysia probably is one of the 10 countries that will not be permitted to participate in the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020.

Minister of Youth and Sports, Datuk Seri Reezal Naina Merican said, according to the media reports, this issue is also related to the list of 159 countries that are barred from entering Japan as announced by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“The announcement has also touched on the exemptions of several categories of people including “athletes and other persons concerned with Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020”, Naina Merican said in a statement here today.

In relation to that Reezal said, he has instructed the National Sports Council (NSC) to communicate and discuss with the Malaysian Olympic Council (MOC) and all related parties to get confirmation and information in detail about this matter.

“The Ministry is constantly in close contact with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Malaysian embassy in Japan to get further development on this issue,” Naina Merican said.

According to the Minister, currently the preparedness momentums of the national athletes are good including their physical and mental training to participate in the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020 that will begin in 46 days from now.

Besides preparing the best for athletes, Naina Merican said, the Ministry will consistently ensure and prioritise the health and safety of the athletes, coaches and officials.

The Minister said, any current updates and progress on this matter will be announced from time to time. –Malaysia World News
