KUALA LUMPUR: “Nobody can break the strong relationship between Malaysia and Indonesia in fighting the militant group Daesh that has been translated symbolically  in the 40th General Border Committee Malaysia- Indonesia (GBC Malindo) meeting here on Thursday,” said Defence Minister,Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein on Thursday.

Hishammuddin said, Daesh or ISIS has become the targeted enemy and as such the two countries have found a way and a serious commitment has been made to address the terrorists’ threats in the region.

The meeting ended with Defence Ministers, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein Onn and Ryamizard Ryacudu from Indonesia signing and exchanging documents at Wisma Perwira, here today.

Regarding the border issue in the “borderless world” today, Hishammuddin said, the GBC Malindo meeting has agreed to build five more joint controlling centres (POSGAB) at the borders of Sabah/Sarawak and Kalimantan.

“Both parties agreed that the four existing POSGAB that are located in Lubok Antu, Biawak, Seliku and Ba’Kelalan should be increased for more efficient borders’ management,” he said to the media after the meeting that was attended by high ranking military and security officers from both countries.

Meanwhile Malaysia supports Indonesia’s suggestion to form “Our Eyes” and it will be discussed in a special meeting at the ASEAN Defence Minister Meeting (ADMM) in Manila, Philippines in October.

Commenting on “Our Eyes”, Ryamizard said, this initiative will include the government of Malaysia, Indonesia and Philippines and it involves the air, sea and land military intelligence.

“Formerly we have done our military exercises together but now we are facing the possibilities of the terrorists attack and human trafficking problems.

“The involvement of “three eyes” will make the situation and the policies about the Daesh clearer. We believe we can address these issues following our systems and approaches,” he said,

Subsequently Hishammuddin said, the 10 ASEAN Minister of Defence meeting in Manila will also discuss the safety of Marawi that is focusing on counter terrorism and countering violent extremism.

Hishammuddin also mentioned that Rohingya’s issue was discussed mainly for humanitarian aids as it should be extended to them for fear that Daesh’s ideology will be infiltrated if they are left unattended.

The Malaysian Minister of Defence also said, the government has banned Malaysian citizens from travelling to North Korea.

Hishammuddin added, on North Koreas’s issue he and Ryamizard Ryacudu will bring the issue to ASEAN Defence Ministers meeting and voice their concerns about South East Asia’s region apart from monitoring the situation closely. –Malaysia World News
