Malaysia has donated USD1million to Turkiye – PM Anwar


 

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim told the Dewan Rakyat today that Malaysia is sending earthquake aids to Turkiye in return for its direct and indirect assistance involving millions of ringgit to several Malaysian initiatives.

Anwar said, this has rarely happen in bilateral ties with other nations.

“Some quarters are questioning why Malaysia is taking such steps and described it as “excessive”.

“Malaysia enjoys the special friendship between both countries. There is unprecedented large scale damage apart from the tsunami destruction in Aceh, Indonesia in 2004,” he said.

The Tambun Member of Parliament who is also the Finance Minister said, Malaysia has donated USD1million to Turkiye. He would also propose the amount to be increased at the cabinet meeting tomorrow.

Elaborating on that Anwar said, Malaysia has sent RM50 million to Turkiye. The biggest contributor was Malaysia Airport Holdings Bhd. with 5 million Euro while Yayasan Albukhary RM10 million and the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia donated USD 1million.

Meanwhile he said, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar has also donated USD1 million to Turkiye.

Other donars include YTL Corporation, Yayasan Sime Darby, Malaysian Rubber Glove Manufacturers Association, Indian Muslim non-governmental organisations and Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd. –Malaysia World News
