Malaysia faces challenges in creating high skilled work opportunities – PM Ismail

PUTRAJAYA: The government had agreed to review the policies holistically involving human resources and human capital in all related ministries to address the challenges in the labour market.

Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said, the government is consistently ensuring the country to move forward in line with the technological changes that fulfil the market needs to guarantee the prosperity of the Malaysian Family.

Ismail added, the country is facing competition from developed nations that offer higher salaries to attract skilled talents to work in highly potential sectors.

“I have chaired the Economic Action Council meeting to discuss two main issues namely advanced technology to increase the economic growth and the development of talents to fulfil the market needs.

“The government is committed to make Malaysia as a high income nation. It will be centred in the application of new technology and innovation and domestic technology development besides continuously working to develop the future talents for inclusive growth and sustainability,” Ismail said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the meeting had agreed on the proposals of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) that intervention should be taken to improve Malaysia’s position on the top 20 in the Global Innovation Index. This is in line with the government’s target in the 12th Malaysia Plan.

The Prime Minister added, an innovative strategy will be formulated to increase the technology commercialisation and national innovation following the mismatch of such fields with the industry needs.

Ismail added, the meeting had also taken into account the challenges on the existing talents based on the industry needs. The country is facing the challenges in creating high skilled work opportunities. Secondly is the challenge to retain and attract skilful talents. – Malaysia World News
