Malaysia has beaten Indonesia 3-2 in their opening Group G World Cup 2022/Asia Cup 2023 qualifying match at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta yesterday on Thursday (Sept 5).

The Harimau Malaya won through Sumareh Mohamadou who scored two goals.

Malaysia will next face the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday (Sept 10) at the Bukit Jalil Stadium in Kuala Lumpur.

Sumareh scored a brace after coming on in the 36th minute replacing Hadin Azman.

“Yes, I am, of course, happy to have scored a brace. My winning goal is a gift to all Malaysians.”

National coach Tan Cheng Hoe was also quoted praising his players for their amazing performance.

“We were nervous coming here. It was an amazing performance, especially in the second half where my boys were really focused on winning the game.”
