Malaysia has asked the North Korean ambassador, Kang Chol to leave the country immediately, after having criticised Malaysia government over the death probe of Kim Jong-nam, the brother of the North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un.
“Kang Chol must leave Malaysia within 48 hours,” said the Malaysian Foreign Minister, Anifah Aman .
“The Malaysian government has declared him Persona Non Grata,” the Foreign Minister’s statement reads.
Mr Anifah also warns that “Malaysia will react strongly against any insults made against it or any attempt to tarnish its reputation.”
This decision comes after the envoy condemned Malaysia investigation and said that his country “could not trust” Malaysia’s handling of the investigation.
Mr Kang also said that the probe into the killing had become “politicised” and was being interfered with, according to a report by BBC News.
The removal of the North Korean ambassador, Kang Chol, also comes after Malaysia government investigated a company called “Glocom” which is run by North Korea’s top intelligence agency to sell military communications equipment, in violation of UN sanctions, according to some sources.
Kim Jong-nam was assassinated on Feb 13 at a Kuala Lumpur airport by a deadly nerve agent VX.
Two women, one from Vietnam another from Indonesia, have been arrested and charged in court with murdering Kim Jong-nam.
