Malaysia has banned the sale of hard liquor (wine and whisky) in grocery, convenience stores and Chinese medicinal shops, except at supermarkets, bars, trade centres, shopping centres and dedicated liquor shops, effective today.

According to the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), the sale of beer in these premises is still allowed but can be sold only to non-Muslims aged 21 and above.

Premises located near the mosque, police station, school, hospital or residential area are not allowed to sell any sort of wine or alcohol.
