Malaysia arrests and deports hundreds of illegal migrants during MCO

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has recently detained hundreds of illegal migrants staying and working illegally in the country.

In a joint- operation on Monday (May 12), the Immigration Department arrested 1,368 illegal immigrants near the Selayang wholesale market.

Among the foreigners who were arrested are 790 Myanmars, 421 Indonesians, 78 Bangladeshis, 54 Indians, and six Pakistanis.

They were detained for failing to produce valid travel documents, the Sun Daily quoted Immigration Department Director-General Datuk Khairul Dzaimee Daud as saying.

“We will deport them… They will also be blacklisted and prohibited from entering Malaysia forever,” he said.

Among the illegal immigrants arrested were 98 children also.

All the detainees were screened for Covid-19 before brought to the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department for further investigations.

The Selayang wholesale market area is currently under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO).

The joint-operation on illegal immigrants involves the Immigration Department, police, armed forces, Rela, Civil Service, Malaysia Civil Defence Force, Health Ministry, National Security Council and the Fire and Rescue Department.- Malaysia World News
