PUTRAJAYA AUG.7: The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAFI) will make amendment on the Federal Agriculture Marketing Authority Act 1965 (141 Act) to authorise the Federal Agriculture Marketing Authority (FAMA) to distribute and market the livestock commodity in the domestic market.

MAFI Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Donald Kiandee said, the proposal to amend the Act that will broaden the scope of FAMA to market the commodity and livestock product will be tabled at the coming Parliamentary session.

“Currently, the 141 Act has limited power where the definition of agricultural produce in Section 1A only provides specific agricultural product and does not include the livestock commodity.

“FAMA will take the role to distribute the livestock commodity and stabilise the supply chain for such commodities to ensure the livestock supply is consistent in the market and its supply chain is not disturbed as currently there is no specific agency that carries out the livestock marketing activities,” said Donald.

The MAFI Minister said that to the media after viewing the work progress on the building of the Sabah Fruit Processing Centre at Sabah FAMA Office here today.- Malaysia World News
