KUALA LUMPUR DEC.26: The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) is on its highest level of preparedness to face any probabilities including the second wave of floods hitting the states in Malaysia.
Senior Minister of Defence, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said, one battalion in a well-prepared situation is placed in every state to be mobilised to the flood affected areas at any time needed.
Hishammuddin added, he will be working closely with the Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Mohd. Zuki Ali as the head of the special post flood team and preparedness for the second wave that will be set up as announced by the Prime Minister to ensure full cooperation be given to this special team.
“Besides that I received reports that MAF boats have been fully utilised without stop in areas hit by the floods. Following that MINDEF has directly contacted the Ministry of Finance (MOF) to make emergency purchase of 55 units Outboard Motors (OBM) and the application has been approved by MOF,” Hishammuddin said in a statement here today.
On another development the Senior Minister said he had been contacted by Prince Turki bin Mohammed bin Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, Saudi Arabia Royal Prince this morning (Sunday) informing his intention to help MAF’s efforts to provide assistance and contribution to the Malaysians who have been impacted by the floods through King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center.
As of 25th December 2021, Hishammuddin said MAF has mobilised 998 officers and military staffs from the Malaysian Army, Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) and Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF), 96 multiple assets including 7 tonne truck, 3 tonne truck, one tonne truck, combat boat, Outboard Motors (OBM), helicopter EC725 and “back hoe” in every state that has been hit by the flood including Selangor, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan, Kelantan and Melaka.
“MAF has successfully transferred 32,661 flood victims to the relief centres (PPS). On behalf of the government I personally thanked the efforts of the whole MAF staffs and MINDEF family who have been directly involved in OPS MURNI.
“I am also thankful to all the agencies and the “rakyat” for giving full cooperation with MAF throughout the implementation of OPS MURNI,” Hishammudin said. – Malaysia World News
