MAF to strengthen security along Malaysia-Thailand border

BANGKOK: Minister of Defence, Mohamad Sabu met his counterpart General Prawit Wongsuwon here today (Nov.21) to discuss the defence cooperation between Malaysia and Thailand in strengthening the security along their shared border.

In the meeting the Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand who is also the Minister of Defence, Prawit and Mohamad had reaffirmed their commitments to enhance the cooperation and both sides underscored their shared challenges that require a continued cooperation including joint efforts against terrorism.

The Ministry of Defence in a statement said, in the two day visit to Thailand, Mohamad also met the Prime Minister, General Prayut Chan-o-cha.

“Both Mohamad and Prayut had a very productive discussion including a broad
spectrum of issues concerning strategic importance to both countries.

“In the meeting, Mohamad also extended Malaysia’s fullest support to Thailand
on its Chairmanship of ASEAN,” said the statement.

As part of his visit to Thailand, Mohamad had the opportunity to be at Thailand’s Counter Terrorist Operations Centre of the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters.

Mohamad also spent his time at the Chaiseri Metal & Rubber Co. Ltd., one of
the major military product suppliers for the Royal Thai Armed Forces.

The statement also said that Malaysia and Thailand had shared a strong bilateral

relationship and the visit had provided both countries to further deepen the
