BANGI, SELANGOR: To reduce the burden of students under the sponsorship of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) studying in the country and overseas following the rise in cost of living, the government has agreed to increase the Living Allowance (ESH) effective September 2022.
Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said, the implementation of the ESH for students in the country will be increased at the minimum rate of RM650 until RM950 a month from diploma, PhD and professional level.
Ismail said, for students overseas the ESH will be increased at the minimum rate of RM1, 380 until RM7, 600 a month from degree until PhD and professional.
“The increase in ESH under the sponsorship of MARA involves 62,998 students and it is very timely to help lessen the burden of students following the rise in living expenditures.
“The ESH for the existing students and new intakes studying in the country will be adjusted according to the increase in the cost, inflation and the needs of students.
“The ESH provided by MARA is to help students accommodate their daily expenditures including food, house rentals, transportation and daily needs in the studies,” Ismail said in his speech in conjunction with the “Aspirasi Kecemerlangan Keluarga Malaysia” at German Malaysia Institute (GMI) here Saturday.
The Prime Minister also emphasized that the existing rate of ESH has been implemented since 13 years ago. There is a need for it to be reviewed following the rise in cost of living 10 years ago and the situation becomes worst with the COVID-19 pandemic and other issues affecting the world today. –Malaysia World News
